monthly

HICP inflation

Jul 202620 markets

Annual change in the harmonised consumer price index, using the common EU methodology.

How to read it

A shared definition makes cross-country inflation comparisons more consistent than mixing national headline measures. The national consumption basket still differs by country, and a lower positive rate means prices are rising more slowly rather than falling.

monthly

Unemployment rate

Jul 202620 markets

Seasonally adjusted unemployment as a share of the labour force.

How to read it

Monthly data shows labour-market direction sooner than annual development indicators. It excludes people outside the labour force and does not measure hours, pay, informality or job quality.

quarterly

Quarterly real GDP growth

Q2 202620 markets

Seasonally and calendar-adjusted real GDP change from the previous quarter.

How to read it

Quarter-on-quarter growth is an early reading of economic momentum before annual indicators are complete. Early GDP estimates are revised, and a single quarter can be distorted by strikes, weather or volatile industries.

monthly

Industrial production

Jun 202620 markets

Seasonally and calendar-adjusted production volume across mining, manufacturing and energy.

How to read it

The index provides a relatively fast signal from the production side of the economy. Industry has a different weight in each economy, so the same index movement can have a different effect on total GDP.

monthly

Retail sales volume

Jun 202620 markets

Seasonally and calendar-adjusted volume of retail sales.

How to read it

Volume removes much of the effect of changing prices and gives a clearer view of goods consumption. It excludes many services and does not represent total household consumption.

quarterly

House price index

Q1 202618 markets

Quarterly price index for residential properties purchased by households.

How to read it

The index tracks price direction for new and existing homes using a harmonised European framework. It does not measure rents, affordability, mortgage costs or differences within a country.

Interpretation discipline

What this page does differently

Freshness is useful only when the comparison remains honest.

Periods stay attached

No false common “today”

Inflation may be available for July while production stops in June and housing in Q2. Each cell keeps its own official period.

Rates are not levels

Read the unit first

Inflation and GDP growth are rates. Production, retail and housing are indices whose movement matters more than the headline index level.

Revisions remain possible

Early does not mean final

Seasonal adjustment and later source submissions can revise recent observations, especially quarterly GDP.

Direction needs context

Higher is not always better

Stronger production can signal momentum; higher inflation or unemployment has a different meaning. The table avoids one synthetic score.
